My Father's Miraculous Rock Soup does not stand alone. It is the opening chapter of the Great American Cooking Revival — a multi-layered cultural movement with three interlocking goals:
- Restore family cooking as a daily practice in American homes.
- Return the shared meal to its proper place at the center of community life.
- Empower the next generation of children to grow, cook, and share real food.

Lesson Flow
- Opening Story (10 minutes)
Read aloud key pages from My Father’s Miraculous Rock Soup (the father teaching his son in the Bronx kitchen and the parallel war-torn village story).
Ask: “What happened when everyone brought just one small thing to share?” - Discussion (5 minutes)
- What does it mean to turn “nothing” into something wonderful?
- Why is cooking and eating together a “sacred ritual”?
- How can small acts of sharing strengthen our families and communities?
- Hands-On Cooking Activity – “Rock Soup Night” (30–35 minutes)
- Each family places their “miracle rock” in the center of the table.
- Follow the simple step-by-step Admondo’s Rock Soup Recipe together (children help wash, chop, stir, and season).
- Talk through each step: “Why do we add one ingredient at a time?” “How does sharing change the soup?”
- While the soup simmers, families share one thing they are grateful for.
- Family Meal & Reflection (10–15 minutes)
Serve the soup together.
